The Oresteia of Aeschylos and Satre's The Flies

The thesis aims at comparison of the poetics of Aeschylus' trilogy The Oresteia and Sartre's drama The Flies. In the first part we effectuate evaluation of the state of research as well as division and criticism of some prominent approaches. We observe in particular the limitations imposed on the comparative analysis taking its point of departure from such broad concepts as 'fate', 'freedom' and 'tragedy'. Our considerations are guided primarily by Sartre's theoretic writings on theatre and tragedy. In the second part we accomplish analysis of poetic structures discovering resemblances in the function carried out by single poetic factors in the overall structure of the drama. Notable links appear in the way of utilization of associative networks operating at the level of imagery and metaphor, which in both cases are inseparable from the particular manner of developing the action.

Reception of Czech And Slovak Opera in Germany in Consideration of Bavarian State Opera in Munich

This thesis examines from theatrical point of view the Janáčkian dramaturgy in German speaking countries within the context of local reception of Czech and Slovak opera and with special consideration of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. The main referential base of research is German daily critique through which the Author presents an overview of more important productions of Leoš Janáček's operas. The Author then discusses the historical context of these productions, the stage history, German Janáčkian programme and roots of modern-day social-critical expressive staging of Janáček in German speaking area as compared to the more lyrical realistic Czech approach (to simplify). The discussed period is concluded with the year 1998.

Trojan Destinies (τυγχάνω and τεύχω in the oldest Greek epos)

The aim of this study is to introduce the idea of fate present in Homer's Iliad. By "idea" is meant what gives the unity to apparently incoherent views (1) of fate as death and life's content; (2) of fate as a given lot and a power; (3) of fate as what is shaped by men, and what meets them. This triple polarity of meaning is explored on two levels: (a) the level of construction of the epic (how the fates are represented in the poem) and (b) the level of the Homeric expressions for fate (how the characters and the narrator talk about it). Both subjects have been treated many times and from various perspectives in the existing secondary literature. That's why this study does in neither case aim at an exhausting analysis. As for the construction of the epic, it focuses on the role played in its structure by decision, and especially on how the various decisions of different characters are integrated into the unity of narration. Among the expressions that are standardly envisaged it treats in some detail only the two most important, i.e. μοῖρα and αἶσα, although at the same time it considers also two verbs, τεύχω and τυγχάνω , to which the due attention has not yet been paid. The Representation of Šumava in the works of Karel Klostermann

This work deals with the fate of selected places or villages in which the stories of Karel Klostermanns literary works take place. Klostermann was an important writer of the 19th century, who dealt with the lives and the residents of Šumava in his literary works. The plot of his novels and short stories take place in different localities of Šumava. Šumava is a place that was populated predominantly with a German-speaking population in this time. In 1945 this population was forced to leave the region. The goal of my work is to show the reality of the former time in the literary work of Karel Klostermann. The focus is on selected locations and their fate up to the present. As a basis for this analysis are two selected novels from Karel Klostermann: V ráji šumavském, Ze světa lesních samot. Aplikace pokročilých přístrojových technik pro analýzu polutantů životního prostředí

Increasing of human life comfort and safety requires development and application of new chemical substances, which, unfortunately, cannot be completely removed by WWTPs. Thus, these compounds, their metabolites and TPs formed during human/animals/bacteria metabolism, wastewater treatment and natural environmental processes are tend to contaminate all the environmental compartments. Appearance of advanced analytical instrumentation and techniques enable to perform research on emerging environment contaminants fate. This thesis was focused on application of high resolution mass spectrometer and new generation of triple quadrupole for analysis of the environmental pollutants. All studies were mainly devoted to such a group of contaminants as pharmaceuticals because of their high consumption, frequent occurrence in all environmental matrices and potential to cause adverse effects for non-targeted organism due to their biological activity. The first part of the thesis is related to method development for identification and quantification of metabolites in the different tissues of rainbow trout exposed to diltiazem. As a result, 17 diltiazem metabolites were tentatively identified by HRMS and spectral interpretation software. The complex metabolic pathway in metabolic phase I for diltiazem and tissue specific bioconcentration in fish were proposed in the study. The second part of the work is mainly focused on investigation of pharmaceuticals fate in the soil environment. The transformation of several pharmaceuticals, such as atenolol, metoprolol, carbamazepine, sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim, and clindamycin in 13 different soils was studied under laboratory conditions. The parent compounds were analyzed in all studied soils and dissipation curves were plotted. Finally, 15 known and new metabolites were detected and identified. Moreover, identity of 6 of them was confirmed by available analytical standards. It was shown that almost the same metabolites profile was observed in all soils, but formed amount and degradation rate of all detected metabolites were soil type dependent. Several parent compounds and metabolites were shown to be persistent in the soils. Consequently, pharmaceuticals can be transported via ground water to plant. Further fate of pharmaceuticals must be studied as it can have adverse effect on crop consumers. The third part of the dissertation dealt with an important issue of pharmaceuticals transport between different aquatic environmental compartments. Water, sediments and fish from a pond affected with TWW from a local WWTP were analyzed within this project. 18 pharmaceuticals and 7 their metabolites were found in all studied matrices. Solid water distribution coefficients for sediments and bioaccumulation factors for fish liver were obtained in this study under real conditions. Seasonal variations in all studied parameters were investigated for one year period. This study help to extend a limited available information on fate of wide range of compound, especially metabolites in the aquatic environment affected by treated wastewater.

Divinatory presages in heroic stories of Scandinavian and Greek mytology

This paper attempts to describe the interventions of the fate into the lives of chosen characters from the heroic stories presented by Scandinavian legendary sagas, heroic lays from Poetic Edda, Homeric epics and Greek tragedies. After the general introduction, which briefly describes the concepts of the fate in both mythologies, follows a quiet extensive part about the deities determining the fate. Furthermore, the term divinatory presages is defined, and descriptions of several characters, who tell the presages are said. The major focus of the paper, which examines the specific heroic stories, follows. That implies, how the heroes obtain the presages, who or what is telling the presages and especially how the heroes react: whether by activity or by passive submission and what is the result of those reactions. The conclusion should summarize the role of the fate and the divinatory presages in the mythologies of both cultures.
